OH, YES, LET'S...

TUNE FOR TUESDAY

Pentatonix won Season 3 of THE SING OFF last night.
Check them out here if you don't already know how hot they sound.
Or if you just want to hear this song again.

LEAN, MEAN DEANING MACHINE

TUNE FOR TUESDAY

Dean Geyer
"If You Don't Mean It"

I went looking for this
because I just watched Dean Geyer on TERRA NOVA.
I like him better with shorter hair, I think,
but he wears too many shirts on that show.

Well, one,
but one is too many.

I also just learned that he's superstitious,
which makes me less interested in him,
but since I doubt we'll ever meet,
I'll just enjoy the view.

EVIL WOMAN

TUNE FOR TUESDAY

Eartha Kitt
I Want to be Evil

Yeah, I've put this song up there on a Tuesday past,
but it's definitely worth hearing again.

WHOLE LOTTA LOVE LOCK DOWN

TUNE FOR TUESDAY

Yes, I'm still a little obsessed with a capella singing
and with NBC's The Sing Off.
(Last night's episode is playing now, as a matter of fact.)

And lately I'm a tiny bit obsessed with the adorable Mitch Grassi,
who is one fifth of the group Pentatonix.

Here you can enjoy a little taste of all three of these minor obsessions of mine.
I think you'll be impressed with what a big sound five people can make.
If you like the performance, please leave a comment.

POOR WAYFARING STRANGER THAN FICTION

TUNE FOR TUESDAY

Yeah, here's another dose of a capella.
And, surprisingly enough, it's a spiritual, which I normally can't stand
— being all anti-superstition and all —
but I just really love the sound of this.

These eight people make beautiful music together.

ANOTHER BOTTLE OF WINEHOUSE

Sadly, not a shock,
but surprising nevertheless.

This isn't entirely an Amy Winehouse song,
but it's still one of my favourite compilations.

Admittedly, this is bitter,
but all I can think of right now
is all the less talented people who
just keep on living.

LIVE YOUR LIFE INTERRUPTED

TUNE FOR TUESDAY

More a capella from The Sing Off for you guys.
This time, On The Rocks
from the University of Oregon (Go, Ducks!).

They were the "entertaining college boy group" from Season 2.
The "entertaining college boy group" from Season 1 went on to work on Glee,
providing actual singing for the Warblers to lip sync to.
When Season 3 starts up, I wonder who this year's "entertaining college boy group" will be.

Yeah, it seems that formulaeic.

WHITE TIE AND TAILS A-WAGGIN'

Time for another Tune for Tuesday,
and I'm still on my a capella kick, so just deal with it.

This time it's the Whiffenpoofs of Yale,
dressed in the tradition white tie and tails
that they've worn since the group was formed in 1909.
Singing lead is Brennan Caldwell,
and he has enough swagger for three guys.

The song is "Grace Kelly" by Mika,
and the original is definitely worth checking out, too.

For those of you who watched GREEK,
does their musical director make you think of
a taller, thinner Dale Kettlewell?

FIX YOU A DRINK BEFORE BEDTIME

It's not midnight yet
-- not in central Texas anyway --
so it's not too late for a Tune for Tuesday.

Get really comfortable somewhere and
listen to this beginning to end,
without interruption.

See if it doesn't blow you away.

This clip comes from an NBC series called THE SING OFF.

I suppose it's NBC's answer to AMERICAN IDOL,
but from what I've heard
the performers leave that other, much-hyped show way behind.

All the performances on this show are done a cappella,
which used to mean "to the chapel"
but now means "voice only, no instruments."
Every sound you heard here is produced a real human body.
No musicians.
No electronic equipment.
No studio tricks.

What's going on here is that the groups to make it to the final round of Season 2 united for one song, Coldplay's "Fix You." The sextet that starts things off is Street Corner Symphony, my absolute favourite because they're just ordinary guys with an amazingly tight sound. The lead here is their lead singer, Jeremy Lister, who impresses me to no end. If you have the time, check out their empty warehouse version of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

Excuse me now, please.
I'm going to listen to this a few more times.

ALEX PETTYFER

Lady and gentlemen,

Alex Pettyfer . . .

Normally I don't like this song,
but this video clip is cool enough to make me reconsider it.

Very stylish editing.

The kind of stuff I wish I could do.
But the credit goes to someone called maypipb.

DISCO BALLS OF FIRE

I see that Panic at the Disco has a new music video.

And,
because I haven't had an excuse to say this for a while,
I really want to make out with Brendon Urie
for a couple of hours.

GIVE ME SOME SLACK

Below we have Josh Slack,
a local boy turned Abercrombie & Fitch mannequin.
He probably works harder than his last name would imply,
and hope he gets laid a lot and shares his DNA with the world.

Check him out in this Natasha Bedingfield video.

Abercrombie model, Austin boy Josh Slack looking all beautiful
After a couple of years of modeling, Josh has landed
his first movie role. We see him here in his role
in the movie version of WHERE'S WALDO? where
he plays the Evil Waldo whose white stripes are black,
who doesn't wear glasses, and who refuses to hide for some reason.

No, I probably won't be seeing it either.

BUT WHEN I DREAM, I DREAM OF EWWWW!

I'm not proud of this,
but a couple of days ago I awoke from a dream
where I was torturing Nick Jonas,
assisted by Becky from Glee,
but Becky was dressed as the tap-dancing Bee Girl
from that Blind Melon video.

I hope I finish this prescription off soon.

On the other hand,
I haven't laughed so much
over one of my own titles
in a long time.

GERMAN LESSONS IN LOVE

How do you make a Lady Gaga video
that's actually worth watching?

Make the video without her.

Or should that be "without it"?

ROAD TRIPPY

hot guy blog with tune for tuesday: funny little world by alexander rybak

Sometimes Alexander Rybak is handsome.
Sometimes he's cute.

But here he's abso-fucking-lutely adorable.

Ways that Alexander Rybak is like Justin Bieber
  • Needs a haircut
  • Records music and makes videos
  • Too popular for his own good
  • Needs a better educated person to write his lyrics

BREAK FAST CAR

It's been a long time since I put a song up here,
but I keeping being impressed with Boyce Avenue.
Granted, they cover others' songs,
imitating the original version a bit to tightly,
but I've yet to hear them them do a bad job.

And this version with Kina Grannis is really good.

Enjoy.

VIENNA SAUSAGE

For those of you who've never been to Austria,
here's a sample of what we look like. Schön, oder?

Okay, this is what one of us looks like.

Most of us aren't so fortunate.

Enjoy the video and I apologize for the Celine Dion.
