At the end of the biography, someone says that a lot of what he was writing at the end of the 19th century is still relevant today. Is that because Wilde was ahead of his time, or just that we've progressed so little?

good writing is always relevant regardless of when it was written. truly great authors have the ability (gift?) to create works that transcend time and future events.

Exactly, Duke. Think about music. Every year there are dozens of albums released, each with at least 10 or 12 songs, but after just a few years almost all of those songs are forgotten. Still being listened to or read or watched after a long time is what separates art from crap, and the timelessness of Oscar Wilde is what makes him great.

If I ever learned to talk as freely in the 'blogposts as I do in the comments, I might have more readers.

And what's with all the anonymous comments lately? I'm glad to see more comments, but why anonymous? And are they all from the same guy, do you think?

what's the difference between posting as "anonymous" or as "dukerwt"? the identity of the poster is still hidden.

your comment on music was very true. a great song from 30 years ago is still an enjoyable listen today.

there is nothing wrong with your blogposts. is there a blog out there that gets the number of readers / comments you want for your blog? naked pictures would get you more hits but it won't elevate the level of your blog.
