MATERIAL GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN

In the mid-80s, two girl singers were just starting their careers. One had a great voice, but the other was phenomenal at marketing herself as a product and she eventually won the popularity contest.

But here the talented one shows that she can still belt out a song.

There's another version of this without the live audience, but I like to hear how excited her performance gets them.

TIGHT END ZONE

After years of selling LSD to liberals who wanted
to hallucinate that they were living in another
world, I finally had enough money to create
my own semi-pro football team. But the guys
all quit when they found out I couldn't afford
to buy them helmets or jerseys.

Okay,
I could afford to buy them.
I just didn't want to.

This photo of Michael Radon is

a modified version of one I saw
at Fantasies of a Virgin.

MAN AFTER MY OWN HARTFORD

Colin Barnett, a Connecticut boy and aspiring model.

According to his profile at Model Mayhem, he's 6'2", which is just about perfect.

It also says that he's "very experienced," which is interesting.

Whaddya think: does he look better with long hair or short?

SELF CONTROL-ALT-DELETE

Real fun today setting up my new laptop.

My computer died. I'll be back later.

This is really odd, but even though it's just a dead computer and most of my stuff was backed up, it still gets me in the gut like a friend died or something. Weird.

GENE POOL BOY

According to a recently re-run episode of SUPERNATURAL (that I never saw the first time, of course), this guy - Matt Cohen, 23-year-old actor from California - is the biological father of both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

I wouldn't credit the casting director with a lot of training
in genetics, but they must have had some art education
to have been able to create such an enticing juxtaposition.

FRONT BRIDGE WORK

The guy who lived next door to Leo was
proud of his
wrestling medals, but no
matter how Leo tried to
convince him
that he could make some real money

with his skills, the guy refused to do
gay porn.

KRYPTONITE OF THE LIVING DEAD

Today, a special Fun for Friday, dedicated to
my favourite superhero as a kid.

(The stories were mostly crap, though.)

A piece of the only episode of the SUPERBOY series filmed in 1961. I've been looking for this for a long time, but Wes found it first. This isn't the beginning, but I think we get our best look at Rockwell in this part.
7 mins 35

A episode from the 70s cartoon. No hunky actor this time, but it does have the voice of WJM-TV newsman Ted Baxter. Meanwhile...
6 mins 45

A short clip from the 80s SUPERBOY series, with acting bad enough for a David DeCoteau movie. But I can't believe that they just left him there at the end.

HARD ROLL IN THE HAY

Old MacDonald thought it was time to stop
for the day, but then he looked over at the day
labourer he'd hired and suddenly remembered
one more thing that needed to be ploughed.

DJ WALKING

If you react like I did, you'll want him to change sounds at about 1 min 30. Just wait. He will.

WISHING WELL BUILT

Civan was proud of the brick exterior on his
new house, but it cost so much that he was
sometimes afraid to take his eyes off of it.

TUMBLING TUMBLEWEED WACKER

"The drive across Texas can be simulated by staring at a wall
for twelve hours."

- Philip Defranco

I don't know whether he's part of the impossibly thin Defranco family from the Seventies or not, but he's funny. Usually.

SECOND COAT OF MANY COLOURS

this just didn't feel right. And not just
because the other bank employees
looked at him funny.

Help, please!
Last year (or maybe 2007) several 'blogs published
several photographs of some blond male model
dressed in a tuxedo and striking some very
James Bond-like poses. I want to use those
photos for a project, but I can't remember
the guy's name. If you can help me to find
either his name or the pics, I'd appreciate it.

WRAPPED UP IN CLOVER HONEY

Eva Cassidy
At Last
3 mins.

Another meeting between one of my favourite voices and one of my favourite songs. Not as great as the original and it's not nearly as gut-wrenching as Cassidy's own Blues in the Night, but it does have a beautifully sweet quality of it's own.

And I realized for the first time just how short this song is: when it ended, I wanted more.

Just out of curiosity,
does anyone actually listen to the songs I put up on Tuesday?

STAKING MY CLAIMS ADJUSTER

Does anybody else think that this
insurance pitch-character Justin Case is cute?

Kinda like a really young James Spader. All I've been able to find out about the guy is that he's an actor from Chicago who once worked in a professional puppet show. If anyone has a name for him, please let me know.

And as long as I'm asking marginally insurance-related questions, why are there so many ads for car insurance during Star Trek episodes? Are Trekkies prone to car accidents or something?

SET PHASERS TO STUNNING

Although I've seen all the movies and
most of the television episodes, I confess
that I've never thought of myself as a real
Star Trek fan, but there's something about
this photograph that makes me want to
boldly go where no man has gone before.

SHARK BOY WONDER

So have you checked out Taylor Lautner in the trailer for NEW MOON yet? The boy was always cute and moved with an athletic grace, but now he's becoming nicely upholstered.

My math skills tell me that Taylor's just seventeen, so I think I may have my new ponyboy posterchild. Sorry, Brent.

I'm not proud of being so entertained by the piece of sentimental drivel this was TWILIGHT, but getting to see Taylor almost makes up for them trying to convince me that Robert Pattinson is beautiful. In interviews, he seems smart, funny, and charming, but not beautiful.

DISH PAN HANDSOME

Okay, I've been really lazy for the last week. Not busy. Not distracted. Not even bed-ridden with depression. Just lazy.

But I'm back now.

And here, in a weak pun, is last month's (and still reigning) Man of the Month with another kind of back...

It was always a bit odd when Phil
did the dishes without a shirt.

The dishes got clean, but thoughts
of everyone else in the house got so dirty.

EXPERIMENTS ON THE PILLOW

I've conducted the Ryan Cooper Experiment:

Below is one photograph split down the center. The right side was uploaded using Blogger; the left is displayed from Photobucket. Blogger reduced the size of the photograph by about a third, but I increased the size back to the original.

Now I want to see if there's any reduction in picture quality as well.
