Despite having 900 channels on his television,
Ryan's bedroom mirror was still his favourite program.
Not that I blame him.
Half of those channels were reruns
of LAW AND ORDER.
So, was anybody else seeing double when they went to bed this morning?
A mirror image is appropriate for January First.
The month is named for Janus, the Roman god with a face on both the front and back sides of his head, which allowed him to look forward and backward at the same time.
On the Roman calendar, January was not the first month -- that was March to them -- but it was still the month when the world seemed to die before coming back to life, and it was for them, as just about everyone else, a time to consider the past and make plans for the future. Janus must have seemed like the natural mascot for this.
I'm doing a bit of this considering and making plans myself. I won't bore you with the details, but it's high time I started steering this life of mine toward something instead of just letting it drift from day to day.
