Time for another Tune for Tuesday,
and I'm still on my a capella kick, so just deal with it.

This time it's the Whiffenpoofs of Yale,
dressed in the tradition white tie and tails
that they've worn since the group was formed in 1909.
Singing lead is Brennan Caldwell,
and he has enough swagger for three guys.

The song is "Grace Kelly" by Mika,
and the original is definitely worth checking out, too.

FIX YOU A DRINK BEFORE BEDTIME

It's not midnight yet
-- not in central Texas anyway --
so it's not too late for a Tune for Tuesday.

Get really comfortable somewhere and
listen to this beginning to end,

This clip comes from an NBC series called THE SING OFF.

I suppose it's NBC's answer to AMERICAN IDOL,
but from what I've heard
the performers leave that other, much-hyped show way behind.

All the performances on this show are done a cappella,
which used to mean "to the chapel"
but now means "voice only, no instruments."
Every sound you heard here is produced a real human body.
No musicians.
No electronic equipment.
No studio tricks.

What's going on here is that the groups to make it to the final round of Season 2 united for one song, Coldplay's "Fix You." The sextet that starts things off is Street Corner Symphony, my absolute favourite because they're just ordinary guys with an amazingly tight sound. The lead here is their lead singer, Jeremy Lister, who impresses me to no end. If you have the time, check out their empty warehouse version of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

I'm going to listen to this a few more times.

Another meeting between one of my favourite voices and one of my favourite songs. Not as great as the original and it's not nearly as gut-wrenching as Cassidy's own Blues in the Night, but it does have a beautifully sweet quality of it's own.
